This series of paintings was conceived as a meditation on the present moment. The force of gravity meets the force of muscle and breath, and for a short time, the body is balanced in between. This is a visual metaphor for our lives. Between the exhalation and the inhalation, between birth and death, we are alive. I have created these paintings to vibrate with the pulse of life, suspended between two states of being.

I am inspired by the beauty and infinite complexity of the natural world, and the magical processes of human vision and imagination. I return to the human figure and the landscape because they are so familiar, so compelling, and so receptive to interpretation. Just under the surface lies the universal mystery of life, which must be felt, as well as percieved. Great art reveals this to us. I paint and draw to represent both the external form and the internal mystery present in all living beings.
